Wild Goose 8
Oct 18, 2014 (10am - 5:30pm)
Oct 19, 2014 (12pm - 6pm)

Wild Goose 8 (WG-8) is also called "Five Elements & Bagua Fists". It is a showcase of how martial arts movements, such as punches and sidekicks are incorporated into the gentle and roundish Qigong movements to enhance the Qigong effects. In WG-8, quick and strong movements stimulate qi to permeate the body surface, while slow and soft movements induce qi to go deep inside the body for nourishing the internal organs. Practicing this Qigong offers us many health benefits, nourishing our internal organs while detoxifying and purifying ourselves.

In this two-day workshop, our teaching focus is on improving every learner's performance of WG-8 movements. We will also pick out several important movements, or group of movements from WG-8, to analyze and compare with similar movements from other sets of Wild Goose Qigong, so that we know more clearly the function they have played in WG-8. Here are several examples:

  1. "Wild Goose is Flapping Its Wings" This is a Wild Goose signature movement. It appears in many sets of Wild Goose Qigong
  2. "Serial Steps with Clenched Fists" A similar group of 5 movements appears in WG-2 and WG-10
  3. "Walking the Circle in Bagua Steps" This appears in at least 7 sets of Wild Goose Qigong. Some with different hand positions

Two days: $190; $20 discount for pre-registration (no student/senior discount)
One day: $100; $10 discount for pre-registration (no student/senior discount)
Note: pre-registration payment due one week before date of workshop

(wild goose practice class)

Hello Qigong Enthusiasts,

For the next three Saturdays (12/6 - 12/20) we'll be emulating our qigong brothers & sisters in Beijing by bringing our practice outdoors into the chilly morning.  We'll meet from 9-10:15am at West Valley College  in view of the mountains and sky where we'll practice favorite short forms from the Los Gatos class, adding in some walking and a little Wild Goose Qigong as well.

It is a delight to practice outdoors and for many of us this is our favorite time of year, so I encourage you to bundle up and join us!  You'll be glad you did.

Our meeting place will be in the open area in front of the Admissions and Records building at West Valley College.  From Los Gatos take Hwy. 9 toward Saratoga.  Make a right on Fruitvale Ave., then as you get to the college make a right on Admissions Way.  Turn left to find parking toward the farmer's market and you'll drive right past us on the right.

Here is a map of the campus for a better orientation. I'll bring a basket to receive donations for the classes. I look forward to seeing you there!

Winter Session: Jan 10 - Mar 28, 2015

Note: No class 11/29/14

Please see: www.lgsrecreation.org for pricing and registration (search on reynolds). Each session consists of two classes...

The first class will meet from 9:00am-10:00am and will include a variety of short forms to get the qi moving and support health throughout the season.

The second, shorter class will meet from 10:15am-10:45am. This class is for those interested in exploring some longer forms within the Wild Goose (Dayan Qigong) system.

Both classes are open to beginning through advanced students - everyone is welcome! If you plan to attend the Wild Goose class, we ask that you either enroll in the first class concurrently or make sure that you have done some qigong practice on your own beforehand and come with a sense of openness and flow already established. Drop ins are welcome!

The Los Gatos High School Community Room is located above the Girls Locker Room and Small Gym. It overlooks the pool. From East Main Street, take Pleasant Street (as you face the High School, it's the street on the right past the Fitness Club), turn left on Brooklyn Ave. to the end (street behind the Fitness Club). Turn slightly right and go up a small hill to the Community Room. Park in any staff or student parking spaces.Los Gatos High School Campus Map

Mindful Eating - Tuesdays 6:00 - 8:00pm (8 Week Class)

El Camino Hospital
2500 Grant Rd. (see map)
Tuesday 6:00 - 8:00pm
Next Session Starts: October 21, 2014

8-week Course: Oct 21 - Dec 16, 2014 (no class 11/25)

Mindful Eating is a new 8-week program designed to support the continued practice of mindfulness in daily life. Since we nourish ourselves with food and beverages several times a day, mindful eating provides a ready pathway for infusing our lives with “the magic of mindfulness”.

Beyond being a very practical application of mindfulness, it can be an especially powerful one as well. Eating is a biological need. To this we add our own personal and cultural histories. For many of us these factors combine to create a relationship to food and our bodies that is complex and sometimes difficult.

As we practice eating with full attention to the experiences of body, mind and emotions in the light of non-judgmental awareness, we can begin to develop a healthier relationship to ourselves, resulting in a natural desire to eat well.

Whether you suffer from a medical condition that requires a restricted diet, struggle with an eating disorder, battle with stress, or simply want to deepen your relationship to yourself and enjoy life more, mindful eating offers a compassionate approach to greater health and happiness through the practice of self-awareness.

EACH EVENING SESSION IN THE 8-WEEK SERIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Gentle Qigong movement
  • Mindful sitting meditation
  • Guided mindful eating exercises
  • Group discussions

Awakening in the Body Retreat

Spirit Rock Residential Retreat
Saturday, May 3, 3:00pm - Friday, May 9, 12:00pm

Teachers: Phillip Moffitt, Debra Chamberlin-Taylor, Pascal Auclair, Spring Washam, Marcy Reynolds (qigong)

Cost: $1200 - $600 sliding scale, plus a donation to the teacher and retreat staff.

The cultivation of awareness in the body, which the Buddha taught as the first foundation of mindfulness, opens the doorway to wisdom and compassion. In this retreat, we explore the body through sitting and walking meditation and guided movement classes. We investigate how the body can be a portal to skillfully working with difficult emotions. We concentrate on developing mindfulness of the body in order to be more comfortable in and knowledgeable about our bodies. And we work with body awareness to make sitting more focused and enjoyable and as a means to strengthen insight.

Practicing mindfulness of the body allows us to become more sensitized to the subtleties of our physical sensations and we can become aware of various energetic experiences. Guidance will be offered on how to work with them. From the perspective of dharma practice, the body can be a great source of insight into how we cling and sometimes act as our own worst enemy.

Guided meditations will include instructions in body sweeping and investigation of the nature of sensations. There will be two guided movement meditation sessions each day, dharma talks and meetings with the teachers. Both new and seasoned meditators are welcome.

This retreat will be held in noble silence, with opportunities for small group interviews with the teachers, dharma talks and instructions in both Insight Meditation (Vipassana) and qigong. Two qigong sessions will be offered

Spirit Rock extends a special invitation to young adults (age 18-26) who wish to attend this retreat at a rate of $25 per night, on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of special rates are available, please apply early.

This retreat will be held at Spirit Rock in Marin County.  Registration begins on January 6, 2014. Please contact Spirit Rock for pricing and registration information. Marcy can be reached by email at or by phone at(831) 512-9331.

Woodacre, CA

Finding Freedom in the Body:
Mindfulness of the Body as a Gateway to Liberation

Spirit Rock Residential Retreat
Monday, Sept 15, 3:00pm - Sunday, Sept 21, 12:00pm

Teachers: Mary Grace Orr, Bob Stahl, Richard Shankman, Marcy Reynolds (qigong)

Cost: $1200 - $600 sliding scale, plus a donation to the teacher and retreat staff.

This retreat is suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators. We will work primarily with the first of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness - mindfulness of the body. The 32 Parts of the Body meditation has rarely been taught in the West; you will be introduced to it from an Insight perspective of the true nature and wonders of the body. This practice has also been used for healing illness and most importantly to help eradicate the erroneous view of self. Various methods will be taught to strengthen mindfulness of the body, and to explore the mind/body connection.

We will follow the usual format of an Insight Meditation (vipassana) retreat, with periods of sitting and walking practice, as well as qigong sessions for further exploration of mindfulness of the body.

Quotes from past participants:

"This retreat helped me realize more deeply the true impermanence of my body while cultivating a deep appreciation and gratitude for the miracle and mystery that this human body represents."

"I really came to realize that my body, indeed, is a vessel in the truest sense of the word. I have always had great respect and awe for the workings of the human anatomy and physiology, but meditating on its parts and functions brought me even closer to the wonder of it all."

Spirit Rock extends a special invitation to young adults (age 18-26) who wish to attend this retreat at a rate of $25 per night, on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of special rates are available, please apply early.

PREREQUISTE: At least one previous retreat at Spirit Rock or permission of teacher.

This retreat will be held at Spirit Rock in Marin County.  Registration begins on May 13, 2014. Please contact Spirit Rock for pricing and registration information. Marcy can be reached by email at or by phone at(831) 512-9331.
